How does Spray Foam affect future plumbing or electrical work you may have done to your home? Written By Superior Insulation your Friendly Neighborhood Spray Foam Contractor in Buffalo, NY

How does it affect future plumbing or electrical work you may have done to your home?

Depending on type of spray foam used. Open cell spray foam is much softer than closed cell spray foam. Open cell also serves the purpose of being a vapor retarder (doesn't trap moisture in your home) and is much easier to fish a wire through.

Ideally complete wiring and plumbing, have inspected, then foam prior to drywall. If necessary to make changes afterward, easiest to open a small section of drywall, use a sharp knife to cut foam (clean cut) insert plumbing or conduit and close again.

Spray foam is significantly more efficient than standard rolled insulation and will not allow mold to accumulate around plumbing, wiring or ductwork. We have known contractors and homeowners who have fished wiring without opening drywall through open cell foam. Impossible through closed cell which is significantly more dense.
